Of course Raylan cared about Tim's well being. He was a good marshal, and at least a decent friend. And he was definitely one of the last true allies Raylan had left. One of the last things holding him to his humanity. Because without that, there'd be nothing to stop him from giving in. From ripping out Boyd's throat and handling things his own way. Because with the undead, the basic laws started to break down.
